Species of conservation concern

Potential for ‘special’ species

The following are listed in the Devon Biodiversity Action Plan, as species of conservation concern associated with Devons oak woodland. Those underlined have been identified as present in Steward Wood and in some cases are hyper linked to photos and further information.

Mammals:

    Dormouse (s), pipistrelle bat (s), greater horseshoe bat (s), lesser horseshoe bat (l).

Birds:

    Redstart (l), tree pipit (l), wood warbler (l), pied flycatcher (l), buzzard (l), lesser-spotted woodpecker (l).

Invertebrates:

    Blue ground beetle (s), Pearl-bordered fritillary (s), silver washed fritillary (l), wood white (l), purple emperor (l), Scarce blackneck (m), orange upperwing (m), double line (m), Wood cricket

Vascular Plants:

    Bluebell (l), bastard balm, Wild daffodil, endemic whitebeams - Sorbus vexans, S. subcuneata, S. devoniensis, S Taxon D, Killarney fern (s), Filmy ferns (l), hay-scented buckler fern (l).

Litchens and Mosses:

    Amanita phalloides, Boletus albidus, B. torosus, B. impolitus, Hygrophorus mesetphrus, H. quercetorum, Zygodon forsteri (m), Douinia ovata, knothole moss, Schismatomma graphidoides (s), Graphina pauciloculata (m), Parmelia taylorensis (l), golden hair-lichen Teloschistes flavicans (l), Pannaria sampaiana (l), Bryoria smithii (l), Lobaria amplissima (l), Lobaria virens (l), string of sausages lichen.
