Wild Food Foray

Dartmoor's Daughter is again partnering with Daniel Thompson-Mills, Wild food Practitioner and Teacher, to share the joys of finding and eating wild foods. This foray around Steward Wood will open the world of edible Spring plants to those who wish to discover and share knowledge.

You will learn:
* The benefits of foraging
* The Golden Rules of foraging
* Classifying plants by family
* Some medicinal uses of plants
* Wild food recipes
* The basics of preserving foods

You will, of course, sample lots of yummy wild goodies, both fresh and preserved, and be introduced to many guidebooks and websites on the subject.

Daniel Thompson-Mills has been living at Steward Wood as part of the low impact eco-community there for 17 years. He has been a wild food practitioner and teacher for 20 years. He has a passion for facilitating nature connection and as well as teaching bushcraft and nature awareness skills, he is an archery instructor.

Level: 2 out of 5. The walk is approximately 1 mile and will be a slow pace but you need to be comfortable with some uphill and an occasionally muddy path in the woods.

What to bring: Sturdy walking shoes, warm layers, waterproofs (whatever the weather forecast). . Drinks/hot flask and packed lunch to complement any wild edibles we collect along the way.

Where to meet: Carpark at entrance to Steward Wood. We will meet you there and walk you up to the woodland.

Optional 2-4pm Tour of Steward Community Woodland

The residents of Steward Community Woodland live and work together in a low-impact project, experimenting with:

* permaculture food growing and land use

* community dynamics

* renewable energy and appropriate technology

* building their own dwellings using low-impact materials

* small-scale woodland management

* experiential and home education

They live on 32 acres of plantation woodland on a hillside, located in the beautiful Wray Valley on the edge of Dartmoor. The community was founded in 2000 and is currently ten adults, three children and two teenagers.

Daniel Thompson-Mills, one of the founder members of Steward Community Woodland, will provide the tour of this low impact project.

This tour is offered to you for free...although donations towards current legal expenses to reframe their land living rights are welcome.
