Steward Community Woodland
Affinity Woodland Workers Diary - November 2001

We helped organise and took part in a cabaret in Morton. Along with lots of talented performers we staged the Eco Village People performing a medley of 70's classics including 'Steward Wood', Go West', 'In a Woodland' (based on In the Navy) and 'DNPA' (based on YMCA). The performance ended with Pete bursting into a rendition of 'I'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK' while revealing his penchant for wearing suspenders and a bra!! We also provided Ivy for decoration and a cycle powered spot light. Both evenings of entertainment were much enjoyed by the audience in the packed Parish Hall. Some of us enjoyed the Fireworks display in Moreton while the rest of us tried to keep our dog Jess calm because he's very frightened of the bangs! Dan attended the Proper Job AGM on the 13th just after our long overdue van maintenance day. Merlin and Ben have been facilitating the Moreton computer club on some Tuesdays, a good forum for people to come and learn and share skills. We also did a cycle power demonstration at a climate change event at Torquay museum. The weekend beginning the 16th proved to be a very busy time with another cycle power demonstration at the opening of a skate park in Yeovil while some of us witnessed Devin (who used to be involved in our project) and others giving presentations and receiving their permaculture diplomas at Turners Field near Glastonbury. We then exchanged some granite rocks to go in the garden at Turners Field for a polytunnel frame and returned home! The next day we had a group visit from the Trans-send Trust based in Ilfracombe who came to have a look around. We made use of the people's energy - they helped carry the polytunnel frame up the hill to the Growing Area where we intend to position it. Our weekend work schedule has been continuing with further work on the forest garden area, and starting kitchen improvement works. We have also all been preparing articles for the Winter edition of our newsletter. At the end of the month Ben completed his new tree-house and held a warming party where we feasted on cake, crisps and popcorn.
