Steward Community Woodland
Affinity Woodland Workers Diary - June 2002
| Unfortunately few accurate
records exist for the summer of 2002 - clearly the members of the project
spent more time than usual living 'in the moment' and did not lay down adequate
stores of information for posterity. However the following diary entry has
been assembled from the fragments that are available:
Some local journalism students chose us to be the focus of a documentary for their coursework, and after several false starts due to the inclemency of the buses and the weather, they visited to film the woods and the community - although they still haven't sent us a copy Cheryll and Pete opened the leaflets and pasting table season at Beech Hill Open Day on June 16th. They performed on the accoustic stage, distributed information and wandered round the impressive gardens. It was an inspirational day, with lots of other stalls and groups gathered in the grassy sunshine. On the following weekend we did the same at Castle Drogo's Earth Awareness Day, getting a space next to the National Trust's cob building workshop, which was very muddy and interesting. The same day saw the Union Inn hosting Moreton's Music Day, so Pete had to head back early to fit in his solo spot, followed by accompanying some friends on the guitar, and the ubiquitous men's singing group performance. It was another good musical celebration, and the dancing and fire juggling carried on into the shortest night. |
