Overnight Visitors
Welcome to Steward Community Woodland.
What follows is some
information and guidelines
that you might find useful during your stay. ·
|
Before your stay Contact us - please don't turn up without arranging it first. We need to know when you plan to visit and for how long - there may be meetings, workshops or other events scheduled that would make your visit complicated. Due to the recent planning conditions we are not allowed tents on site at present so visitor accommodation is now limited. Getting here - we can advise you on how to get here using public transport or let you know if there are any lift-sharing possibilities. We can give you any directions you might need. If you have to bring a car you may park it on the track, but please avoid using it during your stay. Let us know if you are coming in a van as we may need to make alternative arrangements for parking. Animals - please do not bring any animals with you. We have three dogs on site and want to avoid problems associated with canine pack mentality. If this will cause you great difficulty please let us know and maybe we can help make other arrangements. Food - you do not need to bring any food with you, and we would prefer that you don't. We have no animal derived food products or ingredients on site as we are a vegan project. We also try to avoid products containing genetically modified ingredients. Food is available, see below. · During
your stay
The following information points and guidelines have proved useful to our community. We find they help us get along with each other, our neighbours and the wildlife, so please respect them. Vehicles - to keep vehicles usage to a minimum please find out when communal trips are happening and try to share lifts. Feel free to ask us about the local public transport services. Due to planning conditions we cannot allow people to sleep in vehicles on site. Sleeping - you are welcome to sleep in the visitors' bender if it is free (please check in advance). Meals and snacks - please respect our food policies (see above). We have a communal larder and communal meals are usually prepared in the evening or at lunchtime. We suggest a minimum £2 donation per day for food or £14 weekly to cover costs. We also have a 'luxury' food co-op from which you can buy nice organic things cheaply. Alcohol, Tobacco and other drugs - All communal spaces are assumed to be no smoking areas. With all drugs, including alcohol, tobacco or prescription drugs, please respect others and yourself if you choose to use them. Getting involved - You are welcome to attend morning work meetings. Please ask to find out when they happen. There is a 'To Do' list which you are welcome to look at. Feel free to ask what needs doing and to suggest your own ideas. General safety - Please be careful and child aware around tools, burners and open fires. Be aware that some paths may be slippery or steep. Wash your hands before handling food. Litter - Please pick up litter if you see it. There are rubbish bags in the kitchen for landfill waste and also a reuse and recycling point. Obviously anything that can be composted should be although cooked food wastes are generally fed to the dogs. Illness and injury - If you feel ill or are injured while staying here, please let us know. We may have experienced similar things ourselves and be able to offer support. Cuts can easily become infected, so please clean and treat them - there is a first aid box in the kitchen which contains Tea Tree oil. Ticks - These small creatures live in tall grass and attach themselves to passing animals including humans to suck blood (especially during spring and summer). If you acquire one, feel free to ask for help in the tricky removal process as it is easy to leave the mouth piece embedded. Enjoy your stay in the woods |
