Open Day

On Sunday 22nd July we had our first open day. Although the woodland walk is always open and we welcome visitors to the settlement by prior arrangement, we thought that it would be welcoming to put aside a day were people can feel free to come along and have a look round. We kicked off at 12 noon and our first visitors arrived shortly after.

Throughout the day we took groups of people on guided walks through the woodland showing them our communal structures, our personal dwellings, some of the woodland work we have carried out and the gardens amongst other things. While not walking, people had the chance to chat round the campfire, enjoying tea and snacks or take a look at some of our photos and literature. Overall the day went very successfully with a constant stream of visitors passing through, hopefully now with a better insight into the project.

The previous day we hired the community club so that people who were unable to get up to the woodland for the open day had a chance to come and chat with us over tea and biscuits or look at photographs and leaflets on issues connected to the project. This was not as well attended as the open day itself, perhaps because it clashed with the North Bovey fair.
